Speaker
A longtime Washington, D.C. and New York journalist, Joe Klein is currently Senior Contributor at Time Magazine, covering political and international affairs, in charge of the column “In the Arena” and animating the blog “Swampland.”  He was the New Yorker’s Washington correspondent from 1996 to 2000.
Joe Klein was the author (as “Anonymous” for some time) of the critically acclaimed novel Primary Colors, portraying Bill Clinton's first presidential campaign, which Klein followed as an insider. Primary Colors spent 25 weeks on the The New York Times bestsellers list—nine of them at the number one spot—and was turned into a movie starring John Travolta in 1998.The Running Mate, featuring a McCain-like Senator and war hero was published in 2000, followed by The Natural: The Misunderstood Presidency of Bill Clinton, also an instant New York Times bestseller in 2002. Publishers Weekly wrote, “There will be numerous books written about Clinton and his presidency, but they will be hard pressed to capture the public and private Clinton as well as this one.” Klein’s latest bestseller is Politics Lost: How American Democracy Was Trivialized by People Who Think You’re Stupid (2006).
Joe Klein has been a political columnist and author of book reviews for The New Republic, The New York Times, The Washington Post, LIFE and Rolling Stone. He is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations and a former Guggenheim Fellow.

Topic
The 2008 race to the White House is described by many as “historical.”   For the first time in history, either a woman or an African-American stands a real chance at getting elected. While the country expresses a marked aspiration for “change,” voters are concerned about the need for experience.  After Super Tuesday, the Republicans have identified a front-runner who faces significant challenges within his own camp, while the contest for the Democrat nomination is getting fierce and might turn into a real marathon.
Famed Time Magazine journalist Joe Klein will give us an insider’s view of this fascinating contest. This “diner-debat” will give you a unique opportunity to listen to his perspective and bounce ideas with him on the current state of play.
